dear village
ase elegua. ase ancestors. ase madre yemoja. ase orishas. ase spirit guides. ase villagers. this is our continuation. our ending. our new beginning. can you believe that it has been an entire year since we began. that went by very quickly. we have come to the end of our first season at anitAFRIKA! dub theatre and we could not have done it without you. thank you.
to celebrate we are closing with the word! sound! powah! dubtheatre festival, which features 5 one act solo performances as well as some exciting emerging new storytellers such as abstract random (comprised of our very own jamilah malika and francesca nocerz), sketch working arts, and the amlakawi dubtheatre collective. after a year of growing, workshopping, and learning together, five artists residents have completed the dubtheatre training program at anitAFRIKA! dub theatre. one of those residents jamilah malika, worked diligently to run the theatre as the operations director and did the most loving, grounded, and compassionate work. jamilah we love you : and thank you and are blowing you kisses of flight as you take off in other abstractly random spaces. we are welcoming our interim operations director abena malika, a dear dear friend of ours and another deeply rooted sistren. welcome abena. we cannot wait to experience your aura.
check out the press release and flyer for the festival below. if you or anyone you know are interested in a residency at the theatre please do not hesitate to get in touch with us, as well we will be sending correspondence out in august regarding our upcoming 2009-2010 season. see you at the festival! oh and don't forget, Friday the 31st we launch our first anthology and documentary film s is for storytelling, which features the plays of the resident artists.
