ase and welcome to our anitafrika! dub theatre newsletter for february 2009, afrikan heritage month. here is a little reflection on rosa and our collective growth; celebrating black womben during dis herstory month.

step quick quick as we explore dis civil rights trip trip don't sit at di back a whole generation already attack dat position stand up in di front wid a clear raised fist we no longer tecking dis whites only trip to whites only heaven our hell on earth blackness full-a-worth suh wi fight fight fight fi wi civil rights no back of the bus like rosa taught us rosa louise mccauley parks, born feb. 4, 1913, tuskegee, alabama was a black american civil rights activist whose refusal to relinquish her seat on a public bus to a white man precipitated the 1955 montgomery, alabama bus boycott. organized by martin luther king, jr. this boycott is recognized as the spark that ignited the u.s. civil rights movement. the consistent application of nonviolent protest action, broke the pattern of racially segregated public facilities in the south and achieved the most important breakthrough in equal-rights legislation for blacks since the reconstruction period (1865-77).

adt! presents channel one dub sessions every first and third tuesday of the month featuring positive vibrashuns, live performances and open mic.
this month, we combine resistance in sound with resistance in movement in a capoeira angola roda (hoh-dah) led by helio carlos souza at 8pm. come down to watch the masters and keep the beat by holding the circle, clapping and singing along, followed by live performances at 9pm and open mic at 10pm. contact village@anitafrika.com to get on tha mic.

the obama experience

![]() the obama experience is a collective of works telling the story inspired by the events in washington d.c., on january 20th, 2009, the inauguration of barack obama. this story, about the event, its meaning, and the journey we took to get there, will employ various mediums to be explored to express the unique and inspiring sentiment surrounding this historic occasion, from painting, photography, and live performance, to a sound installation and film piece.
together we will share with the people, our obama experience, america's first black president... the obama experience will run february 19th thru february 21st. live performances 8pm every night.
