some great news to share this month in the first week of december: phoenix- thomas anitafrika arrived in the world monday november 24, a big beautiful baby boy 9pounds 4ounces! ase to the universe and the beautiful birthing team, who held our hands and guided us through the rebirth.
![]() blessings and best wishes to everyone celebrating the holidays this month. we will be celebrating our first semester in the space with a new works festival tuesday december 16 to saturday december 20, details below. our second series of classes have begun and we are finalizing our winter calendar, this is your opportunity to give us a call at 416.434.1823 or send us an email at village@anitafrika.com to discuss your interests and ideas for january 2009 programming!
this month the holidays and new interest in the space will affect some of our regularly scheduled programming: please note that the t.a.b.c. prison letter writing series sun dec 21 6pm is cancelled, as well as kim and nat's weekly pwyc meditative yoga class wed dec 10 5pm (but do come to the wrap up class on wed dec 17 at 4:45pm) and finally we will resume our film nite series in the new year if the village so wishes, this month's evenind fri dec 12 is postponed until then (please send your suggested films!)

-mikey smith new works festivaldecember 16-20
named in honour of the brilliant and political jamaican dubpoet, this festival features works-in-progress by artists-in-residence at anitAFRIKA! dub theatre. each year adt! mentors 3-5 youth and emerging storytellers, and provide them with rigorous training aimed at developing their artistic and political selves in unison.
the festival will feature raw works by resident artists with talk-balks followed by featured performances by local storytellers including ian kamau, sedina fiata and ania.
please join us at the theatre tuesday december 16 to friday december 19th with a closing ceremony of drummers, dancers and djs saturday december 20th *doors 7pm everyday*

"red snow", a play by diana tso, inspired by the 1937 nanking holocaust, a contemporary story of a holocaust survivor which weaves chinese opera in its storytelling.
three generations of a chinese family in canada. a chinese opera's love story transforms memories of youth, and innocence into the volcanic eruption of a family's and nation's pandora box of terror, shame and pain. this play gives voice to a forgotten holocaust and hopes to inspire active remembrance of all history's and herstory's genocides and respect for human rights.

when: sunday december 7th, 4 - 8 pm.
where: anitafrika! dub theatre, 62 fraser avenue, liberty village, toronto. what: an afternoon of workshops, discussions and activities focusing on alternative and anti-consumerist lifeways. topics range from vegan cooking to doll-making, stenciling to media literacy. come with an open mind and an appetite for fun.
this event is free but donations of food or workshop materials will be gladly accepted. check out facebook group lets barter for more details. by the people who brought you the buy nothing day barter market.

we welcome you into our healing circle with special guest presenter jahmez, who will share the healing power of congolese and south african dance! each session offers an opportunity for participants to share their own 'tools' for accessing spirit. this may involve sharing of ritual items or practices, songs, poems, art, dances, stories and/or experiences. *soul food provided free*
